| RESCUE:MidWest Dachshund Rescue, Inc. |
BREED: Dachshund
Breed Description:
Dachshunds have a mix of both hound and terrier characteristics: they have a strong sense of smell, a loud bark, and a built-in instinct to search out vermin and rodents. Dachshunds come in three sizes: miniature, weighing 11 pounds or less; standard, weighing approximately 16 to 32 pounds; and "tweenie," the unofficial name for dachshunds weighing between 11 and 16 pounds. Their coats can be smooth, longhaired or wirehaired.

Details about "PROCEDURES" responses:
MWDR's adoption procedure requires completing an application form, a home visit, reference checks, and a placement fee. Veterinarians check all dogs MWDR places. The following procedures, as necessary, will have been completed before adopting a MWDR dog: health exam; spay or neuter; Rabies and DHPP vaccinations; found negative for or eradicated of parasites (fecal check); found negative for or undergone treatment for heartworms, and receives heartworm preventative; dental cleaning and extractions; urinalysis; and long-term conditions identified.
Rescue's policy regarding SHELTER FEES:
MWDR will pay shelter fees if necessary. When required to pay a shelter fee, MWDR appreciates the shelter having done any vetting for the dog (e.g., vaccinations).
