Breed Description:
BMDs are large framed - heavier than a Golden Retriever, but lighter than a Saint Bernard. the dogs are tricolored, with ground color black, rust legs, cheeks, under tail and ears; white muzzle, bib, and feet - white markings may be more or less but rust is typically located between black and white markings. Males are typically 24-28" and 80-130 lbs; females 22-26" and 70-110 lbs., but smaller purebreds do exist. BMDs may be reserved to shy with strangers. Sometimes they are confused with border collies or spaniel mixes. Purebred BMDs are usually larger and less active than sporting or herding breeds. The breed does not typically roam.
