BREED: Bernese Mountain Dog

Breed Description:

BMDs are large framed - heavier than a Golden Retriever, but lighter than a Saint Bernard. the dogs are tricolored, with ground color black, rust legs, cheeks, under tail and ears; white muzzle, bib, and feet - white markings may be more or less but rust is typically located between black and white markings. Males are typically 24-28" and 80-130 lbs; females 22-26" and 70-110 lbs., but smaller purebreds do exist. BMDs may be reserved to shy with strangers. Sometimes they are confused with border collies or spaniel mixes. Purebred BMDs are usually larger and less active than sporting or herding breeds. The breed does not typically roam.

Each dog will be evaluated by an experienced person familiar with the breed. Our group can offer rehabilitation training and medical assistance to dogs with a reasonable chance of living a quality life as a companion animal.

Primarily dogs will be housed in volunteer family homes/indoor-outdoor kennels with extensive interaction and socialization.

We are very concerned that BMDs are given an opportunity to become nurtured companions. All dogs will be given the appropriate attention in insure that they are vetted and in good physical shape and in a stable emotional condition prior to adoption.

Rescue's policy regarding SHELTER FEES:

Our group will do the best we can to work with shelters. Payment of shelter fees will be contingent on availability of resources.
