RESCUE:Chesapeake Retriever Rescue of WI
BREED: Chesapeake Retriever

Breed Description:

Average weight-80 pounds, shoulder height-around 24inches(some smaller-some larger)barrel chested, wedge shaped muzzle, slightly elevated rear, ears set high on head, long, slightly curved tail. Coat is short, thick, oily with a tendency to wave or curl on the shoulders, back and rump only.
Colors range from Deadgrass(light straw color), Redish tones(sedge) and tans to deep browns.
No Black will occur-small white on chest and toes on some chessies.
Eyes are always a clear amber or yellow.
Chessies are protective and can become cage aggressive in a shelter, making certain dogs seem unadoptable in that situation. They also do something that is called a "smile"--where they will actually pull their lips back in which looks like an aggressive thing-but Chessies who smile do this when they are happy and come to meet someone. Not all Chessies do this-Some also have a very distinctive "ROOO ROOOO" Sound as well as a normal bark.. They also do a lot of "talking", not to be confused with growling.
