Breed Description:
Great Pyrenees are very large dogs, keenly intelligent, with kindly expression and great elegance. This breed is all white or principally white with markings of badger, gray, or varying shades of tan. They have a rolling ambling gait. Average height is 27 to 32 inches for dogs, 25 to 29 inches for bitches. Average weight ranges from 90 to 125 pounds. The head is large and bearlike, muzzle is wide and slightly pointed. Nose and lips are black, lips are not pendant. Eyes are brown, set obliquely, with a sweet expression. Ears are small, triangular,and pendant. The tail is rolled up when the dog is excited. the coat is double, a heavy, fine, white undercoat and long, flat, thick outer coat of coarse hair, straight or slightly undulating. Dogs are heavily boned, with close cupped feet, double dewclaws behind and single dewclaws in front. At the court of the Sun King, the dog was known as the "gentleman with the white fur".

We are currently non-profit under IRC 501(c)(4) and are pursuing 501(c)(3) status. We are a member club of the Great Pyrenees Club of America and we are an AKC licensed club. We have been doing rescue for more than 30 years.

DESCRIBE HOUSING USED FOR RESCUES:
Dogs are fostered until they are up to date on all shots, have been spayed/neutered, have tested negative for heartworm and have a clean fecal exam, and have been microchipped and evaluated for temperament.

Rescue's policy regarding SHELTER FEES:
Our general policy is that we do not pay shelter fees. Exceptions are on a case by case basis.
