BREED: Labrador Retriever
|
|
|
Breed Description:
Labrador Retrievers have either yellow, black or chocolate coats. These dogs have a short, smooth coat that sheds water like oil. Labs have webbed feet making them excellent swimmers. They are medium-sized dogs, strong, energetic, intelligent and even-tempered.
The AKC standard states that the Lab is a strongly built, short-coupled, very active dog (Coupling refers to that part of the body between the ribs and the pelvis/hindquarter). The head is wide-skulled and full from fleshy cheks. The jaws are long and powerful, not pointed or weak. The neck of a Lab should be powerful, of medium length meeting a well-developed chest that is wide and deep.
The tail is a distinctive feature of the breed. It should be very thick near the base, tapering toward the tip. It should be of medium-length, free from feathering, and covered thickly with the short dense coat, giving it a rounded appearance -- " otter-like". The tail should never curl.

DESCRIBE HOUSING USED FOR RESCUES:
Labs in need of a new home are first evaluated, and then brought into our organization by being placed into one of our foster homes. This is where the Lab is watched and evaluated on many different levels. In order to place the Lab in the appropriate home, we must learn as much as possible about each specific dog's behaviors, fears and habits.

Details about "PROCEDURES" responses:
The process is rather simple but thorough. First you need to provide L.E.A.R.N. a detailed application which tells us about your daily routine and the environment you would provide a Lab. Once your application is received, one of our volunteers will visit your home to ask and answer any additional questions you may have. After your home visit has been completed and you are considered an "approved adopter," our volunteers work to find the best match for you. Sometimes, this process may take a long time, depending on what your requirements are.

Rescue's policy regarding SHELTER FEES:
Contingent upon circumstances. Would rather our resources be used for medical needs.
