Breed Description:
The Maltese is a single coated breed weighing from 3 to 12 pounds, They are white in color, with black nose and eyeliner, the pads of feet are black as well. The maltese coat will grow until cut so you will see various lengths in this breed. Various conditions can cause this dog to have many different looks. Most dogs are kept in a puppy cut, which is very short. Often the coats are matted and dirty if the dog is a stray. The black ,pads of feet , nose or eye rims maybe gray or even pink if there is poor breeding. The coat color may have some tan or lemon color to it as well when poor breeding is involved. Although the coat is usually straight a small amount of wave is often seen. The body is suppose to be boxy but often a long body is seen. This breed has a drop ear set at the sides of the head. The tail is set so it lays over the back in a gentle curve, with long feathering (if it is not cut or matted). Maltese have a sweet disposition wanting only love and attention, and are usually very people oriented unless they come from a bad situation, in which case they maybe fearful of people.

We do rescue all maltese no matter what the circumstances, we at Northcentral believe that is what rescue is all about.

DESCRIBE HOUSING USED FOR RESCUES:
All dogs are fostered in private homes as part of the family. If a dog is use to sleeping on the bed that is where it will sleep in foster care as well. Our fosters have no more than 2 rescues at a time in each home.

Details about "PROCEDURES" responses:
Northcentral Maltese Rescue tries to provide the best vet care possible. Shots are current as well as any dental care that is usually necessary on these little dogs. Our contract states dogs must be returned to us at anytime the family should decide they can no longer keep this maltese. The contract clearly states the dog cannot be sold, given away or distroyed.
