Breed Description:
Dalmatians are generally active, athletic and happy dogs. Adults are 19-24" tall and 40-65 pounds.
Coloring is typically white with black or brown spots called "liver" spotted ranging from light brown to deep chocolate color. Dals may also be lemon (light yellow), brindle or tri colored (brown and black spots.) Their short, dense coat does not protect them from the weather, thus are not outside dogs. Their natural lifespan is 12-15 years.
Dals are intelligent and eager to learn if trained properly with positive reinforcement methods. Dals are active with a lot of stamina, thus require consistant exercise. Due to their energy level, Dals exceed in obedience, agility, tracking and road trials.
Dals are naturally loyal and loving human companions thus do not do well in a shelter environment or a home where they are isolated from their human family.

Mixes not accepted, however, SOS can/will assist with breed identification for purity or mix.
Bite, special needs, and medical issue cases are accepted on a case by case basis.

DESCRIBE HOUSING USED FOR RESCUES:
All foster Dalmatians are housed in a private, home environment with experienced Dal owners where the dogs undergo temperament, training and medical evaluation.
While in foster care, all Dals are trained and constantly assessed for proper placement in an adoptive home.

Details about "PROCEDURES" responses:
We commit to our Dals for the rest of their natural lives. Should an adopter be unwilling or unable to care for their SOS adopted Dal, we require that the Dal be returned to us.

Rescue's policy regarding SHELTER FEES:
SOS will always pay any fee required by a shelter to release a Dal into our care.
