TRANSPORT SUCCESS STORIES
One of the benefits of membership on the WIDogRescue list is that members can coordinate transports of rescue dogs throughout Wisconsin and sometimes including adjoining states of MI, IL, MN, and IA. Since all members subscribe to Responsible Rescue Ethics, transporters are confident they aren't moving a sick or aggressive dog, and rescues are confident transporters aren't going to steal the dogs they transport. The success stories below all have one thread in common: selfless volunteers who agreed to transport or arrange for transport of a rescue dog, to help it arrive at its forever home.
| "Penny" the Samoyed (Playing Again Sams Rescue):
THE GOAL: Transport Penny from Milwaukee to Red Wing, MN.
"Penny" is now in her new home! I assisted the Playing Again Sams folks (Hi Maria!) by driving from my home in Dodgeville to Madison to meet Maria who had driven from Milwaukee. She handed "Penny" over and we were off for Red Wing MN. There I met "Lisa" who is "Penny's" forever home provider. So, 500 miles later, we are now home and all aglow with good feelings all around. It's wonderful when people can work together like this for the better of the dogs! Also, I saw more bald eagles in one day then I think I've seen in my entire life and that's a LOT!! And the standard turkey's and deer. What a beautiful day it was for this drive. Aside from the roads being really iffy in the beginning and certain other roads throughout the day, the bluffs along the Mississippi cloaked in snow and the sun shining on them made it a very pleasant experience.
Ta ta for now and happy rehoming!

"GUS" the Shih Tzu (Fuzzy Paws Shih Tzu Rescue):
THE GOAL: Transport Gus from Madison to WI Rapids.
Posted by Dawn: I (pictured on left) met Sharon MacNamara in Madison right on time - she handed off Gus the Shih Tzu. She was wonderful, everything was just as planned. I then drove Gus up to Portage where we were met by Sandy Calvery (pictured on right)! She's wonderful and will be "fostering" Gus for a while (probably a LOT longer then she thinks - he's a total sweetie and I'd be surprised if she didn't end up adopting him herself!! The entire thing was planned to the teeth and went off without any problems. He's a super
dog - loves riding in the car, lays quietly, and seems to love other dogs (while waiting at the McDonalds in Portage - since I got there about 1/2 hr early - we were sitting in the sun on the grass and a lady with a min pin brought her dog over to see him - her dog wanted to KILL him, but Gus didn't even seem to notice!!), basically your wonderful adoptable dog. I was glad to be a part of this transport and now number 2 (1 Sammy and 1 Shih Tzu)!

"MICKEY" the Lhasa (from Lhasa Rescue):
THE GOAL: Transport Mickey, a blind Lhasa, from Ohio to WI.
Mickey is a 5-year-old Lhasa male whose prior owners did not treat his dry eye condition; therefore, he went blind as a result. To add insult to injury, they then abandoned him on the street where he was found as a stray :( He was taken to a kill shelter in Wooster, Ohio, where he remained for about five weeks. He was posted on our national Lhasa rescue board as time was running out for Mickey. Due to the lack of volunteers in the Ohio area, I offered to foster Mickey (his story brought me to tears). As fate would have it, one of our Lhasa rescue volunteers who helps with transports and other things, but cannot foster, was coming to Wisconsin for Mother's Day weekend! Marilyn offered to bring Mickey along and delivered him to me on May 9th. In order to get Mickey to Marilyn, a Maltese rescue contact in Ohio pulled Mickey for us and fostered him for a week before he went to Marilyn, taking him to the vet and getting him started on some medical treatment for his eye problems and a severe ear infection. Here is a picture of Marilyn (holding my other foster Pebbles from MADACC) and a close up of Mickey - who is a real sweetheart. He is constantly amazing me with his ability to navigate his way around the house with his sense of smell. He is an amazing boy!!!
